Playing with the AT91SAM7S64 32bit ARM processor

After having worked with Arduino and Raspberry Pi here comes a project of building a own breakout board with an AT91SAM7S64 microprocessor from ATMEL. The project started in order to test PCB production for QFP packaged microprocessors. Most of the more powerful microprocessors are available in such packages. The idea was to start and design a board to break out all necessary pins from the microprocessor. The PCB design was done in Eagle, schematics are posted on GitHub.
After the successful production of breakout board and soldering it was tested if the MCU is really working.
For these tests and to get ready to use the breakout board for further projects the ARM tool chain was installed on Linux and the chip was programmed.
In the project description links to the needed tools are provided and a brief description how to get going.
A simple testing program which blinks LEDs connected to the I/O pins is provided to have an application for function testing.
